Rory MacDonald says new teammate Robert Whittaker has what it takes a make a big impact in the UFC’s welterweight division
Speaking to MMA Kanvas before his highly-anticipated bout with Jake Ellenberger, MacDonald revealed that he believes the 22-year-old TUF: The Smashes winner would have a bright future in the UFC.
“Robert (Whittaker) is awesome, I did a lot of training with him for this fight and I really liked having him here, he's a good guy and a great fighter,” explained MacDonald.
“I think he has a tonne of potential. He's very skilled and really athletic, a really great training partner for me and I think he's got a bright future in the sport.”
Following his triumph on The Smashes, Whittaker has been training in Canada at the famed Tristar Gym alongside the likes of MacDonald and current welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre.
MacDonald vs. Ellenberger will co-headline the UFC on Fox 8: Johnson vs. Moraga event this weekend.
