Hey everyone.

Nice website.

Ive just recently arrived in Australia from Ireland.
At home ive been involved in the MMA scene in various different ways.
I competed some time ago in MMA (at an amateur level)
Ive helped coach
Ive cornered
Ive Reffed and Judged on some of Irelands biggest professional promotions.
I managed fighters from Amateur to Professional
And i organised and promoted 5 MMA events.

Im just curious how MMA in Australia works. I know that every country is different in the approach to MMA and i would like to get involved in the scene here.
I have a few questions.

1: Is there a governing body to sanction MMA in Australia?
2: Do you have a standardized rules set that is used in every Promotion?
3: Is there somewhere i can find a list of active MMA clubs on a state by state basis?

Basically in the future i would like to run an MMA event but want to make sure everything is done by the book.

Thanks for any help guys.

All fighting in general now is under the combat sports act 2008
www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/nsw/consol_act/csa2008170/

and in victoria i think it is (correct me if im wrong) mma is still not legalised.
and im also sure that the combat sports act basically uses the UFCs rules as a guideline.
but im no professional and may be wrong.

You're basically right.

Except, MMA is legal in Victoria, but people cannot fight in a caged arena in the state.

oh ok fair enough. well thats alrite then!
its funny how people dont like the fights in cages but really its much safer.. iv been ringside at alot of thailand fights and they have nearly fallen on top of me... with a cage that is not a problem.
